As a real estate agent, I have sold many homes to people with children. One thing that I noticed was that children seem to pick the house, not the parents. For example, I met this couple with their children at a particular home, the house seemed nice enough so the potential buyers put a check mark by this listing and we continued on to the next one.

Several homes we're viewed that day. The children played around at every house and they did not seem very interested until we arrived at the last home. As we entered the home, I saw an obvious change in the children. The children we're now more focused on the house than on their horse playing.

The parents liked the home but we're not sure if this house was the one. What I thought was astounding was the children became the final decision makers. They put their stamp of approval on the home by picking out their rooms and deciding where their belongings would go. The parents looked at each other and said, Lets make an offer.

The above-mentioned story is one that has been repeated on numerous occasions throughout my years as a real estate agent. I have learned that children are very instinctive and a good judge of character when it comes to people and definitely house hunting. So, the next time you decide to go shopping for that home that will be one, remember take your children.
