Family reunion '15
Yet another wonderful day in Texas. After a slow morning at the house, we dug up some of our tough-growing veggies for the annual auction, loaded up the car, and headed to the nearby small town clubhouse where the annual family reunion's summer festivities are held.
After hugging Poppa, Uncle Chili, Grandma, and Pappy, we played for a minute and then the normal events commenced: kids from 2 to 20 played on the playground at the park next door, new precious babies we're introduced to the family with much oohing and aahing from the dozen grand- and great-grandparents present, the heavy absence of loved ones who had been lost since last summer was felt soberingly by all, the food was heavy and buttery and didn't last long, and the oldest and youngest generations fought naps after the rich meal.
We all learned some new family history from Nancy, who was thoughtful enough to have a chart of generations past for we younger folk, then the auction started.
Uncle Chili auctioneered for us during the annual auction, with items ranging from $5 to $95 this year. As always, the proceeds go toward next year's event. Big EZ decided to bid a few times, but since he was out of cash, Grandma bailed him out. Then he bid a few more times (is a problem forming?) and Uncle Chili spotted him. When all was said and done, he walked out of there with quite a haul a huge bag of chocolate popcorn, a mason jar of mixed nuts, a large potted flower, and a helium balloon.
